Seed and Season
Updated: May 6

And God said, Let the earth put forth grass, herbs yielding seed, and fruit‑trees bearing fruit after their kind, wherein is the seed thereof, upon the earth: and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, herbs yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit, wherein is the seed thereof, after their kind: and God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, a third day. Genesis 1:11–13 ASV 1901
God creates with purpose, order, and continuity. He designs life to produce life. Every blade of grass, every herb, every fruit tree carries a built‑in future. His seeds sustain life, multiply life, and nourish life.
We often want God to act in dramatic, immediate ways.
But much of His work in us begins like a seed carefully planted.
Growth takes time.
Fruit takes seasons.
Multiplication takes faithfulness.
What God plants to take root in our hearts is meant to grow after its kind. He calls us to abide in His Word so that, day by day, we become more like Him, stewarding His image, flourishing daily as the life He gives is multiplied in us.
When we steward the seeds God has planted in us, and we allow His roots to grow deep, our faith in Him grows, our obedience to Him grows, and love for our Father grows into love for others.
Life continues through what God plants.
Life multiplies through what God forms generation to generation.
Life increases through what God commands.
Nothing God creates is empty. God placed life within it.
Nothing He forms is fruitless.
Nothing He speaks is without purpose.
Where there is multiplication of life, God sees good in it.
God is the God of continuation. Everything He touches carries purpose, continuity, and nourishment.
You were created to carry what God plants.
You were created to continue what God begins.
You were created to multiply what God speaks.
Your life is not meant to be empty.
Your obedience is not meant to be barren.
Your faith is not meant to be stagnant.
Every word you speak is a seed.
Every choice you make is a seed.
Every act of obedience is a seed.
And seed produces after its kind.
If you sow truth, truth grows.
If you sow peace, peace grows.
If you sow obedience, obedience grows.
If you're not sowing seeds of truth, what kind of life are you multiplying?
We must learn to sow while we wait. Believers often want harvest without sowing, fruit without patience, maturity without process, and increase without obedience but Genesis 1 teaches us that growth follows seed and season.
When God speaks, His Word must be:
Planted
Tended
Watered
Protected
Trusted
To walk worthy means to sow faithfully and wait patiently. It means trusting that what God plants will grow even when unseen. It means believing that waiting is not wasted, it is preparation. It means understanding that fruit appears in God’s timing, not ours.
The disciplined believer does not rush the season. They nurture the seed.
When the earth obeyed, life appeared. When you obey, spiritual fruit appears. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control are not human achievements. They are divine growth.
Obedience is the soil where the Spirit’s fruit flourishes.
Every believer who walks worthy becomes a living garden, a testimony that God’s Word still multiplies.
Your faithfulness today as you study the words of these verses will become nourishment for someone tomorrow. Your obedience becomes the seed of another’s awakening. The fruit of your obedience is evidence of His glory.
To walk worthy is to live like the creation God formed:
carrying life within
producing life around
multiplying life through obedience
A walk worthy life sows intentionally, waits patiently, and trusts God confidently because the God who planted seed in creation has planted His Word in you and His Word always produces after its kind.
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being the God who plants with purpose. Teach me to honor the seeds you’ve placed in my life, not rushing them, not ignoring them, but tending to them as i trust in You. Grow in me what reflects You. Let my life bear fruit that lasts. Lord, make my sowing pure and my harvest holy. Plant Your Word deep within me and guard my heart from impatience. In Jesus Name, Amen.
